Reds HOFer claims "Juan Soto could hit .340 at Fenway Park with Green Monster," predicts Rafael Devers partnership with free agent elevating Boston
The 37-foot-2-inch-high Green Monster in Fenway Park might just help the Boston Red Sox land Juan Soto for the foreseeable future, according to Cincinnati Reds Hall of Famer Sean Casey.
Soto's free agency is taking shape this offseason. While the New York Yankees initially led the bidding war, Rich Ciancimino reported they have slipped to fourth, with the New York Mets and Red Sox leading the race.
Former Yankees coach Casey and Ciancimino believe Soto may want to sign with the Red Sox just because of their left field wall, which could help him smash a lot of home runs like Red Sox legend David "Big Papi" Ortiz.
Casey said on The Mayor's Office (8:56 mark):
"I do believe there's something different about the Red Sox. It feels like they just woke up and realized, 'Hey, we're the Red Sox. What are we doing? We’ve got to go get some absolute stars. We’ve always had stars in our lineup; we’ve got to get them back.'
"They signed Devers, and I think when they look at Soto and think, 'Devers and Soto for the next 10 years? We’re in good shape.' Especially with the way Soto goes to left field—dude, he could hit .340 at Fenway with that monster wall."
Rich Ciancimino believes Juan Soto could have a similar impact as David Ortiz during his time in Boston.
"Apparently, one of the Red Sox's biggest pitches to him is that they showed the analytics of exactly where he hits the baseball. It’s literally like when Papi went to the Red Sox and became one of the greatest of all time. They’re telling Soto, 'If you come play at Fenway Park, you’re talking Triple Crown numbers,'" Ciancimino added.
Big Papi making an effort to help Red Sox land Juan Soto per analyst
David Ortiz wants to see glory return to the Red Sox. According to NJ.com’s Randy Miller, Ortiz is trying to help the Red Sox sign Soto.
“From what I’m hearing, Big Papi is playing a role in this and recruiting Soto hard,” Miller said Saturday on WFAN.
The idea doesn't seem far-fetched. If there's one guy who can convince Juan Soto to set up his base in Boston, it's his fellow Dominican David Ortiz.
