San Francisco Giants pair Taylor and Tyler Rogers thrilled to enter MLB history books as fourth set of twins to play on the same team
Taylor and Tyler Rogers of the San Francisco Giants will become the fourth set of twins to play for the same team in MLB history. The pitchers will be on the roster this season after Taylor Rogers signed a three-year, $33 million contract with San Francisco.
Both have been in the MLB for some time now. Tyler Rogers has been wih the San Francisco Giants since he was drafted by them. After five years in the minor leagues, he made his MLB debut in 2019. Taylor, on the other hand, spent the initial phase of his career with the Minnesota Twins and was an All-Star in 2021.
The only way they can be separated is that Taylor is a left-handed closer while Tyler is a right-handed reliever. Apart from this, off the field there is nothing that can separate both brothers. Being on the same roster has already brought benefits for them as they share the same food preferences, play the same music, watch the same comedies and scrutinize their own games up close.
“We talked about both being in the major leagues," Tyler said, “but somehow, it never crossed our mind being on the same team.’’
The Rogers are the first set of twins on the same team since 1990, when Jose and Ozzie Canseco played for the Oakland Athletics.
While Taylor was considering the San Francisco Giants, he took Tyler's blessings before he signed, saying:
“I didn’t know if I was going to interfere. This is his 10th year in the organization. He set up his own legacy here. I wanted to be careful not to infringe on that.’’
Tyler was happy that his brother was considering moving to the San Francisco Giants
Tyler was excited that his brother was considering being on the same team as him. But he wanted to let Taylor make his own decision in free agency as well.
“I stayed out of his whole free agency,’’ Tyler said. “When I heard the Giants were calling, I was excited, but I didn’t try to sway him one way or the other. Selfishly, I wanted him to come, but I didn’t want him to feel like he had to.’’
Both brothers will be looking to have a nice showing together as they fit into the Giants' rotation.
