"Shohei Ohtani was sent by baseball gods to break the game" - MLB sportscaster marvels at Dodgers superstar's abilities
Shohei Ohtani's first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers was a historic one, leaving fans and analysts amazed. En route winning the World Series, the Japanese phenom recorded the first 50-50 season in MLB history.
On the Baseball Bar-B-Cast, Dodgers broadcaster Joe Davis looked back at the game where Ohtani reached the historic milestone:
"One of the amazing things about the day is that this would've been one of the greatest days ever no matter ... in a vaccum it is one of the greatest games anybody's ever played."
"I really don't know if the guy is human. I think he was sent here by the baseball gods to break the game."
Shohei Ohtani reached the historic 50-50 milestone on Sept. 19 against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot Park as he put in one of best offensive performances ever seen.
He started with a double in the first inning and followed with his 50th stolen base of the season when he went on to take third base. In the second inning, he added a RBI single and recorded another stolen base to make it 51 for the season.
Ohtani added a RBI triple in the third before blasting a home run in the sixth, his 49th moonshot of the year. In his next at bat in the seventh, he blasted yet another homer to reach the historic 50-50 landmark in style. However, he wasn't done yet. In his final at bat in the ninth, Ohtani hit his third home run of the evening to make it 51-51 for the season.
Overall, Shohei Ohtani went 6-for-6 with three home runs, five extra base hits, four runs scored and 10 RBI with two stolen bases, cementing his reputation as one of the greatest players to ever play the game.
Shohei Ohtani reflects on his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers
After six seasons with the LA Angels, where he failed to reach the playoffs, Shohei Ohtani looked back at his successful first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
When he signed the $700 million contract last year, his obvious goal was to win the World Series. A year later, he opened up about his historic season:
"This exceeded my expectations."
After recording historic numbers in the regular season, Ohtani made his first postseason appearance in the MLB. It was only fitting that the year ended with a World Series title, so there wasn't much more he could have wished for.
