Sportscaster fantasizes ideal Mets lineup with Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman acquisition ft. Francisco Lindor at leadoff, Juan Soto batting cleanup
Having secured Juan Soto on a long-term deal, the New York Mets need to focus on the rest of their roster to put out a competitive team next season. There have been rumors about signing Alex Bregman or Pete Alonso, with sportscaster Evan Roberts urging them to sign both players.
On the Rico Brogna podcast, Roberts said that while it's unlikely for Steve Cohen's team to sign both Bregman and Alonso, getting them would take their lineup to the next level:
"I find it really hard to believe that they're gonna throw in another long commitment to Alex Bregman and potentially Pete Alonso ... but if you're gonna keep open to the idea that you can Bregman and Pete too, force of a different color.
"Imagine this lineup: leading off, the shortstop Francisco Lindor. Batting second, first baseman Pete Alonso. Batting third, right fielder Juan Soto. Batting cleanup, third baseman Mark Vientos. Batting fifth, second baseman Alex Bregman. Batting sixth, left fielder Brandon Nimmo. Batting seventh, catcher Francisco Alvarez. Batting eighth, your DH ... batting ninth, your defensive center fielder."
While New York Mets fans wait for the front office to make their next move, they are excited with the possibility of signing both Pete Alonso and Alex Bregman. Both are infielders in their early 30s and looking for a contract between 6-8 years.
There's still time and pitching options out there. But if the Mets choose to go with the pitchers they have right now, they will need to rely on their hitting to win games next season.
Mets add pitching depth by signing pitchers Anthony Gose and Luis Ortiz on minor league contracts
While fans await the next big move this winter, the New York Mets have added depth in their pitching over the weekend. The front office signed LHP Anthony Gose and RHP Luis Ortiz on a minor league contract and have invited them to Spring training.
Both pitchers have several years of major league experience but aren't quite the stars fans want. As things stand, they still need to bolster their pitching before the next MLB season.
