“Still the Dodgers little brother”; “That was pathetic” - Padres fans heartbroken as season comes to an end after NLDS loss
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres battled it out on the field until the final out of their intense NLDS, which ended with heartbreak for Padres fans. The Dodgers took the winner-takes-all Game 5 decider by grinding out a 2-0 win amid huge uproar in Chavez Ravine. Meanwhile, for the Padres, yet another postseason run ended with a premature exit.
Despite taking a 2-1 lead in the series, the Padres couldn't capitalize on their home advantage, losing Game 4. They came to Dodger Stadium intent on trying to squeeze out a victory. However, on the night when they needed runs, the offense choked, despite brilliant stuff from their pitchers.
Fans were loud on social media, mocking the Padres for coming up short yet again against the LA Dodgers:
"Offense went ice cold," another fan added.
Some Dodgers fans also made sure to crack fun at the Padres' expense with memes:
"HEY TATIS, MAKE A FUNNY FACE IF YOU JUST GOT ELIMINATED," another wrote.
"Very disappointed in this team. Brought no energy. Y’all pissed me off. I had high hopes for this team to take down the Dodgers. Now I gotta root for the Mets," one fan said.
2 home runs from two Hernandezes good enough to overcome Padres' lackluster offense
Spoiling the party for the Padres were two Hernandezes. Kike Hernandez smashed a solo home run in the second innings and Teoscar Hernandez hit the second home run in the seventh inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
Both home runs were allowed by Yu Darvish, who otherwise lived up to expectations, pitching 6.2 innings for three earned runs. Meanwhile, his fellow countryman and Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto outdueled him by pitching five scoreless innings to earn the win.
For the Padres, however, the likes of NL batting champion Luis Arraez (1-4), Fernando Tatis Jr. (0-4) and Manny Machado (0-4) going cold cost them the opportunity to take down World Series favorites.
With the season done and dusted, they'll sit back and reflect on the positives of this season as their chase for a World Series title continues. Meanwhile, the Dodgers will take on the New York Mets in the NLCS for a place in the World Series.
