Tanner Scott Trade Rumors: Marlins looking to trade All- Star closer, as per insider
Miami Marlins pitcher Tanner Scott was the sole selection from his team for the 2024 All-Star Game. This marks his first All-Star selection since his major league debut in 2017 with the Baltimore Orioles.
Tanner Scott's value this 2024 season reportedly makes him a target for the Miami Marlins to potentially trade and improve their current standing. He is on a one-year, $5.7 million contract and is set to become a free agent, making it more logical for the Marlins to consider trading him.
MLB insider Jon Heyman confirms this, stating that the club is "certain" to trade Tanner Scott. In his article on The New York Post, he reported:
"The Marlins are dangling infielder-outfielder Jazz Chisholm and are certain to trade All-Star closer Tanner Scott."
Tanner Scott compared to Astros pitcher by Skip Schumaker
During the FOX broadcast of the All-Star game, the Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker compared Scott with Houston Astros pitcher Josh Hader.
Schumaker’s comparison raises the question of whether a team like the Astros might want to trade for Tanner Scott to pair him with their star pitcher in their bullpen. Both are left-handed closers with exceptional pitching abilities.
The Marlins previously traded three-time All-Star infielder Luis Arraez in May to the San Diego Padres. They could hope to get a similarly good return for Tanner Scott, who is also highly valued.
The Miami Marlins are among the worst-performing teams this 2024 season. They are ranked fifth in the NL East rankings with a .344 winning percentage result of their 33 wins and 63 losses record.
Tanner Scott had a solid outing during the 2024 All-Star Game despite his league's loss
Tanner Scott joined the Marlins in 2022 after the Baltimore Orioles traded him. He's already saved 14 games with an impressive ERA of 1.34 and a WHIP of 1.07.
In the All-Star Game, Scott threw 11 pitches, seven of which were strikes. In the eighth inning, he pitched to Baltimore Orioles player Anthony Santander, who hit a fly ball caught by right fielder Heliot Ramos.
After that, he pitched to Jarren Duran, the Ted Williams All-Star MVP award winner, who was recognized for his tie-breaking two-run homer in the fifth inning.
Facing Scott, Duran hit a ground ball that resulted in an out. The two-run lead from Duran’s homer helped the AL All-Stars secure a 5-3 victory over the NL All-Stars.
