"Their owner knows how to spend" - MLB fans react as Dodgers fan turns up with custom Juan Soto jersey for World Series parade
The Los Angeles Dodgers fans are celebrating the NL West team's eighth World Series title after getting the better of the New York Yankees in the Fall Classic earlier this week.
The Dodgers announced a parade to celebrate their triumph, and fans rocked up in huge numbers after missing out on the celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic when the Dodgers won their last title.
During the parade, one Dodgers fan repped the team's jersey with Yankees star Juan Soto's name on the back. The All-Star slugger is going to be a free agent in the offseason after his one-year deal with the Yankees ended with their World Series loss.
The fan's intriguing jersey caught the attention of users on social media, and several fans highlighted the Dodgers' spending prowess.
"Can’t say I blame them, their owner knows how to spend," a fan alluded to the team's offseason spendings last year.
"If they sign him the league might as well just give them a 162 game bye and let them start their season in the NLDS," another wrote.
Meanwhile, several Dodgers fans blasted the fan for using franchise legend Clayton Kershaw's jersey No. 22.
"How dare that clown use #22!! That's Kershaw's!" wrote an angry fan.
"You can change that f****ng number, buster a** kid. That number taken. period," another Dodgers fan lashed out.
"No diehard Dodgers fan would ever disrespect 22 like that. F that guy," chimed in another fan.
Juan Soto not giving any advantage to the Yankees in free agency
Although Juan Soto had his career-best season with the Yankees in his first year in the Bronx, the 26-year-old outfielder is electing to test free agency with reports claiming a contract offer that could rival Shohei Ohtani's record-breaking $700 million deal with the Dodgers last year.
The All-Star slugger has repeatedly reiterated his love for wearing the pinstripes this season but is open to offers from other teams in free agency.
“I feel every team has the same opportunity,” Soto said. “I don’t want to say anybody has an advantage.”
While the Dodgers will likely prioritize resigning Teoscar Hernandez in free agency, they are linked with a move for Soto. The Yankees and their city rivals the New York Mets are the other strong contenders for the Dominican slugger.
