“They have a very fast team” - Aaron Boone discusses Red Sox’s dominant base-stealing performance as Yankees defense fails to secure series
Aaron Boone and the New York Yankees started out well against their AL East rival Boston Red Sox but failed to keep the momentum. The Yanks had a staggering 9-3 loss as their defense crumbled against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
The Bronx Bombers were unable to make several plays as their opponent recorded nine stolen bases. It was a tough loss to absorb as their offense equally failed to score with the bases loaded.
Following the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone discussed the team's loss and opened up on the opponents' base-stealing performance.
"It's on all of us, it's a group effort, it takes everything to control running games. Obviously, they have a very fast team and their running game beat us tonight. We gotta do a better job overall of just controlling those things. We didn't do well enough tonight," Aaron Boone said in an interview on Yes Network.
Despite their loss, Boone seemed optimistic about the team's performance this season. He further said that the Red Sox have a lot of fast players on their team.
"We've done a good job, but every now and then something shows up and we gotta do a better job than that. There's certain teams that have their DNA and that's how they are gonna play. Obviously, the Red Sox has a number of fast payers and that's how they play the game right now," Aaron Boone continued.
Aaron Boone shares positive update on Anthony Rizzo's injury
Anthony Rizzo was forced to leave the game after his collision at first base. Rizzo struggled with pain in his right arm after dropping to the ground. The Yankees manager shared a positive update on Rizzo's injury.
Boone stated that the low-grade X-ray imaging was negative. However, Rizzo will undergo further tests. According to Boone, the Yankees slugger had experienced pain on the field.
“The initial imaging which is a low-grade X-ray, was negative. But he's in some pain in that lower arm in a number of places. He'll get a lot of tests on Monday and see what we're dealing with," Boone said.
It's been a rough weekend for the Yankees, especially after losing to their AL East rival. The Bronx Bombers will return to Yankee Stadium to play the Baltimore Orioles.
