“This is how bad my team is”; “Dude signing during the All-Star game is insane” - MLB fans react as Nick Senzel agrees to sign with White Sox

Infielder Nick Senzel, who was released by the Washington Nationals last week, is reportedly set to sign with the Chicago White Sox for a major league spot, as per MLB Insider Jon Heyman. This comes as a surprising move to many amid the All-Star break.

The White Sox will need to adjust their 40-man active roster to clear space for Senzel. The third baseman is hitting .209 from the plate with seven home runs and 18 RBIs this season. Last year, he batted .236 with 13 home runs.

Some fans on the internet were not happy with the report, as they took to X/Twitter to mock the signing:

"Dude signing during the All-Star game is insane," one fan commented.
"YESSS (this is how bad my team is)," another posted.
"Chicago isn't that bad, are they?" another fan said.

The mocking continued online, as some found the news in the middle of the All-Star game irrelevant:

"-2.2 WAR, looks like a perfect fit. #WhiteSox," one fan wrote.
"Biggest baseball news of the day," one fan sarcastically quipped.
"Bro watch the All-Star game," another suggested.

The acquisition of Nick Senzel perhaps makes sense given the lack of production the White Sox have gotten from the hot corner. In 371 plate appearances, the White Sox's third basemen are slashing .206/.246/.315 with six home runs and a 4.6% walk rate.

However, Yoan Moncada, the everyday third baseman for the White Sox is nearing his return after being on the injured list since the second week of the season. So, that lack of production could also be attributed to this fact.

On the flip side, both Moncada and Paul DeJong are impending free agents and there's a good chance the club trades them away.

While with the Nationals, Nick Senzel played third base but could only slash .209/.303/.359. Thus, the Nats decided to release him and replace him with rookie Trey Lipscomb.

Senzel will be up for arbitration in 2025 and it remains to be seen if he can sustain his spot on a major league roster.
