"This sucks" "Dropped to my knees" - Rangers fans disheartened with news of Corey Seager's season-ending surgery

Texas Rangers shortstop Corey Seager's troubles with injuries have put an end to his 2024 MLB season. The news came on Thursday after Rangers GM Chris Young announced a sports hernia surgery for the two-time World Series MVP.

Corey Seager hasn't featured for the reigning World Series winners since Sept. 2 after being placed on the 10-day injured list due to hip discomfort. While he was expected to join the team soon, Seager will subsequently undergo a hernia surgery on his right side after consultation with doctors in Arizona:

“Obviously I feel for Corey, but he’s had a tremendous year, been a great leader in the clubhouse and on the field for us," Young said. "His performance has been amazing, and we’re looking forward to getting him back healthy next year.”

Rangers fans were devasted with the news of their star shortstop's season-ending prematurely:

"Just dropped to my knees in Texas," one fan wrote.
"This sucks," another fan said.
"Just saw a guy drop to his knees at Walmart smh," one fan added.
"Damn it feels like he's had injury after injury this year. Hope he's alright and can have a bounce back year in 2025," another fan said.

Chris Young confident of Corey Seager's recovery

Corey Seager will go under the knife for a second consecutive season as he had sports hernia surgery on his left side following the Ranger's maiden World Series triumph last season. Seager missed most of Spring Training due to his surgery and had a slow start to the season:

“He recovered great from the first surgery, and I’m confident he’ll do everything he can to recover great from the second one,” Young said.

Corey Seager hit 30 home runs this season, reaching the mark for a third consecutive season despite his slow start. However, the two-time World Series MVP is adamant about being ready for spring training this time around:

“You can’t miss two offseasons,” Seager said. “You’ve got to be healthy and get back into the work and get back into shape. Didn’t really have any buildup last year coming into the season. It’s something that you need to have.”

While Josh Smith has been donning the role in Corey Seager's absence, the team will miss their star shortstop, especially after starting a crucial and what could be a season-defining series against division rivals the Seattle Mariners on Thursday.
