"This is what it takes to win two batting championships" - Fernando Tatís Jr. & David Peralta playfully roast Luis Arraez's self-care session
Fernando Tatis Jr. and David Peralta shared the secret therapy behind their fellow teammate Luis Arraez's two batting titles. Arraez, who won the honor consecutively the past two years, with the Miami Marlins and the Minnesota Twins in 2022 and 2023, respectively, is again having a great batting season, hitting .303.
On Tuesday, Peralta and Tatis went inside the Padres facility to show how Arraez does so well at the plate. In the video, Aarraez can be seen receiving mind exercises with some electronic apparatus, through which it seems he was relaxing.
"People think baseball is easy. This is what it takes to win 2 batting championships. What do you think? @tatis" Peralta wrote in the caption of the post.
Earlier in the season, Luis Arraez spoke about what has worked best for him and how he has been able to do so well consistently at the plate.
“I just work hard, and I just come in here and play hard every day,” he said via SI.
“I enjoy this game. This game is hard. We have to enjoy the game. I try to do my little things and hit the ball every time like I do. If I hit the ball like that, we will score a lot of runs.”
Fernando Tatis Jr. feels Luis Arraez is one of the best hitters he's seen
Luis Arraez is a versatile hitter, with the ability to find holes in the field and dispatch out of the park. Fernando Tatis Jr., who is credited as one of the best hitters of modern baseball, said about Arraez in May:
“He’s one of the best hitters I’ve ever seen play in the game of baseball.”
In the absence of Tatis Jr., the team's former leadoff hitter, Luis Arraez, has taken over the duties and has done well. Even manager Mike Shildt praised Arraez's batting maestro.
“He’s a genius, man,” Shildt said. “You just can see he’s got this great talent that’s coupled with high baseball IQ with great focus, and then a great approach and then great physical hand-eye talent. It’s just like a perfect blend of a guy that knows what he’s doing with the bat in his hand.”
Despite the absence of Fernando Tatis Jr., the Padres have done a commendable job of staying within 2.5 games behind the Dodgers for the NL West lead. With Tatis expected to return soon, there's a good chance that the team could take the division lead and retain its home advantage in the postseason.
