Three-time World Series Champion Mike Scioscia set to lead Team USA in WBSC Premier12 this November

Mike Scioscia has been named manager of Team USA for the 2024 World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier 12. The World Baseball Softball Championship event will take place in Mexico, Taiwan, and Japan from November 9 to 24.

Although the roster and rest of the coaching staff have yet to be announced, the fact that Team USA has been able to bring in three-time World Series champion Mike Scioscia is massive. The 65-year-old, who helped the Los Angeles Angels (Anaheim Angels at the time) win the 2002 World Series, will bring some much-need veteran leadership to the team.

The Premier12 tournament will feature the top 12 ranked international teams, with Team USA entering as #3. Team Japan will enter the tournament as the number one seed, with Team Mexico as number two.

The United States will open the tournament in Pool A with Mexico, Venezuela, the Netherlands, Panama and Puerto Rico. The top two teams in Pool A and Pool B will advance to the Super Round, which will be held at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

Scioscia hopes that his squad will be able to not only reach this stage but also secure the first Premier12 title in history for the USA. South Korea (2015) and Japan (2019) won the only other two iterations of the tournament.

Mike Scioscia has a rich history coaching Team USA baseball on an international level

The former Los Angeles Angels manager served as the skipper for Team USA during the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were held in Japan in 2021 due to the games being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mike Scioscia led a star-studded USA roster, which featured the likes of Triston Casas, Shane Baz, and former Cincinnati Reds All-Star Todd Frazier, to the Gold Medal game.

Although the team ultimately fell to the eventual winner, Team Japan, it was an impressive performance from Scioscia's squad. He hopes to secure a title during the WBSC Premier12 title this year.
