Trevor Bauer leans on Jon Jones' ex-opponent to argue supplements offer no real advantage

Trevor Bauer has been in MLB exile after allegations of sexual abuse. The former Cy Young winner has since plied his trade in the NPB for the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and in Mexico for the Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

Bauer was a recent guest on Ryan Pineda's "Wealthy Way Podcast," which was streamed on YouTube on Wednesday. On the podcast, Bauer cited Chael Sonnen, a three-time UFC title challenger, to claim health supplements don't offer any benefit.

Bauer's claim came after Pineda said he didn't get any advantage from taking supplements, even TRT (Testosterone Replacement Therapy).

"He [Chael Sonnen] is just like, 'Yeah, you want to say that you're in the sauna and you're doing this, and you're taking your, you know, creatines and your proteins, like, it doesn't do anything. I know. Take it from me; I've done everything in the book,'" Bauer said [51:39].
"He's like, 'This does nothing. I can tell this guy's on this, this guy's on that.' It's interesting listening to him talk because he's like, 'I kind of have the same experience.'"

Sonnen fought twice for the UFC middleweight title, both against Anderson Silva, and once for the light heavyweight title, against Jon Jones.

After the first fight against Silva, the California State Athletic Commission found the Oregon native guilty of having extended levels of testosterone, resulting in a 12-month suspension, which was reduced to six.

Incidentally, both Silva and Jones have also been suspended for testing positive for banned substances. As such, many have put an asterisk on their claim as one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time.

Trevor Bauer urges MLB to follow UFC's lead in promotion

Trevor Bauer has marketed his brand unlike any of his contemporaries. Even though he is not playing in the MLB, Bauer has a significant following on social media.

On the "Wealthy Way Podcast," Bauer explained the reason for the relatively low social media presence of big baseball stars was the MLB culture, which is conservative.

As such, Trevor Bauer urged the MLB to follow the lead of the UFC, the premier mixed martial arts promotion. Spearheaded by CEO Dana White, UFC is the fastest-growing sports league in the world.
