Tyler Glasnow Injury Update: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shares encouraging update on ace following move to 15-day injured list

Los Angeles Dodger starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow was scheduled to start Saturday's game against the St. Louis Cardinals but has instead been placed on the 15-day injured list following discomfort in his throwing arm. It was later reported on Friday to be right elbow tendinitis.

However, soon enough, upon imaging, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts shared an encouraging update, saying the MRI test showed no structural damage and that the pitcher could return once his 15-day stint was over.

Earlier, when the injury was reported, it seemed like Glasnow may be in for a long haul on the sidelines. This is his first arm injury of this season and for a pitcher who had Tommy John surgery in 2022, any setback could be detrimental.

However, the latest update sounds less alarming and should excite the Dodgers camp, which has been struck with multiple pitching injuries at the wrong time of the season.

Despite concerns that flared up after Thursday's catch play, where the issue was first sparked, the Dodgers ace was upbeat about wanting to start Saturday's game and said he didn't need to be placed on the injured list. However, Roberts decided to take a cautious approach with his injury (via MLB.com):

“He was fighting tooth and nail to make the start tomorrow, but we’ve been very consistent as far as the stretch run, getting guys ready for the stretch run, and he’s a big part of finishing this season off the right way,” Roberts said.
“If he were to make the start tomorrow, I would’ve been on pins and needles from the first throw and I don’t think that’s good for him, good for the team and, again, we made the right decision,” he added.

Tyler Glasnow has pitched 134.0 innings this year, already eclipsing his season-high mark. Looking at the way he has performed so far, the Dodgers will likely turn to him as an important part of their postseason run. Glasnow is 9-6 with a 3.49 ERA so far this season and looked great after coming off the injured list earlier from lower back tightness.
