Tyler Glasnow Injury Update: Dodgers star put on IL with elbow tendinitis as LA team's pitching woes continue
Tyler Glasnow has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow tendinitis by the Los Angeles Dodgers. This led to the addition of left-hander Justin Wrobleski to the active roster. Wrobleski pitched in Friday's 7-6 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Glasnow was scheduled to pitch on Saturday against the Cardinals but the latest setback could sideline him for at least a couple of turns through the rotation. This is the first time Glasnow has been placed on IL for an arm injury this season. Previously this season, he was placed on a 15-day injured list due to lower back tightness.
Glasnow, who has already eclipsed his season-high count of innings pitched with 134.0 already this season, would need to recover from this discomfort as the Dodgers go into the last stretch with a three-way race alongside the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres for the NL West division.
This season, Glasnow has gone 9-6 with a 3.49 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.
For Saturday's game, the Dodgers might recall Bobby Miller from Triple-A to fill in.
Tyler Glasnow recalls Freddie Freeman's emotional return
Earlier on Aug. 5, Freddie Freeman made his return to the lineup after his family survived a major health scare with his son Maximus. Freeman's son suffered from Guillain-Barré syndrome, which resulted in the Dodgers putting the first baseman on family emergency leave.
However, after his son was taken off the ventilator and all looked safe, Freeman returned to the lineup amid standing ovations at Dodger Stadium:
“Freddie means so much to this team,” Glasnow said on "The Chris Rose Rotation" podcast. “His clubhouse presence, he's one of the most professional baseball players I've ever met. Will never take a day off, no matter how bad he feels. He always plays. It means so much to him, but his kids mean everything to him.
“It was so much bigger than baseball, it made stressing about baseball pointless. The grand scheme of life, that is so much more important,” he added.
For now, Tyler Glasnow will need to grind through his recovery and get back to the rotation as soon as possible, which has already been severely hit due to injuries to Yoshinobu Yamamoto and other key hurlers.
