Watch: Aaron Boone gets ejected after arguing with umpires over basepath interference call on Juan Soto

A controversial interference call from umpires during the New York Yankees' game against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday saw manager Aaron Boone get ejected yet again. The incident occurred in the first inning when a Giancarlo Stanton pop toward second base led to a collision between Juan Soto and Angels infielder Zach Neto.

The umpires' call was runner's interference, even though Soto tried to avoid contact with Neto. Boone was quick off the bench to protest the call and subsequently ended up getting himself ejected.

Aaron Boone is a former MLB player who took over as manager of the Yankees in 2018. Having made the playoffs every year since, the 2023 season was the first time they failed to make it to the postseason under him. Nonetheless, they have made an excellent start to the 2024 campaign and remain at the top of their division table.

The Yankees (37-19) enter Wednesday's game in good spirits despite a narrow defeat in the series opener against the Angels. However, they were met with a controversial call from the umpires early in the first inning which saw their manager ejected from the game.

As Angels shortstop Zach Neto attempted to catch a Giancarlo Stanton fly ball, he bumped into Juan Soto making his way back to second base. Despite Soto's attempt to avoid Neto, the umpires' call was runner's interference, resulting in a double play for the Angels.

Alex Verdugo's homer gives Yankees the lead after Aaron Boone's ejection vs Angels

The New York Yankees are eager to continue their fine form in the MLB and bounce back from a defeat against the Los Angeles Angels. Despite manager Aaron Boone's ejection early in the game, outfielder Alex Verdugo stepped up to give them the lead with a 398-foot home run in the fourth inning.

The Yankees' defense managed to contain the Angels' bats into the seventh inning when Anthony Volpe doubled their lead with an RBI triple. A win for the Yankees tonight would set up an exciting series finale on Thursday.
