Watch: Aaron Judge ends longest home run drought of his career with epic grand slam
New York Yankees captain Aaron Judge hit an unusual slump in his pursuit of a historic campaign after going a career-high 16 games without a home run. However, the former AL MVP brought an end to the streak against the Yankees' arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox on Friday.
With the Yankees trailing 4-0 after the top of the seventh inning, Aaron Judge had the bases loaded for him in the bottom seventh after Gleyber Torres' RBI single to score the Bronx Bombers' first run in the game.
The Yankees captain got hold of Red Sox reliever Cam Booser's fastball and smoked it for a go-ahead grand slam. It not only ended his barren stretch of games without a home run but also gave the Yankees a 5-4 lead in the game after the end of the seventh inning.
Aaron Judge's go-ahead grand slam helped the team to a 5-4 win, making it two wins in two against the Red Sox and stretching their lead to three games over division rivals Baltimore Orioles.
Aaron Judge wasn't concerned about his home run drought
While the Yankees fans were getting anxious about the captain's form ahead of the most crucial phase of the season, Aaron Judge was oblivious to the fact that he had gone 16 games without a home run (via Yahoo Sports):
“Was it 16 games? I didn't really know that," Judge said afterward in the clubhouse. “It's just another day. I really don't focus on hitting homers. I don't focus on any of that. I've got a job to do.”
However, Yankees teammate and pitcher Clarke Schmidt refuted Judge's statement with a funny response:
“He's very aware of stuff like that, I think,” a smiling Schmidt said. “I don't know about that. You guys can decide for yourself.”
