Watch: Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani gets furious at the umpires after a strikeout
Los Angeles Angels phenom Shohei Ohtani is one of the calmest players in MLB, so it's quite surprising to see him argue with an umpire. However, that's what occurred on Tuesday night against the Detroit Tigers.
The Japanese was called out on strikes twice which triggered a rare angry response towards the umpires.
Bally Sports posted a video of Ohtani getting furious at the umpires after a strikeout:
Will the Angels be able to keep Shohei Ohtani?
Ohtani is the frontrunner to win the American League Most Valuable Player award this season. If he does win the award, it will be the second time in three seasons he bags it. He also secured the AL Rookie of the Year award in his debut MLB season in 2018.
Despite his efforts, the Los Angeles Angels have failed to make it to the playoffs since 2014. They haven’t won a postseason game since 2009. They are not in playoff contention at the moment, reducing their chances of retaining Shohei Ohtani when his contract expires.
The Angels have improved their standing in the AL Wild-Card race by winning six of their last seven games. However, they still trail by 4.5 games.
Although Ohtani's preference is Los Angeles, their continuous failure could eventually push him out the door.
