WATCH: Angels star Mike Trout sends unique Independence Day greetings to fans
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout wished his fans a happy July 4, celebrated as Independence Day across the United States of America. Trout did so in a unique way.
At the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Trout smashed a baseball off the tee and prepared a small video that culminated into July 4 fireworks. Trout is recovering from a meniscus surgery he had earlier this season.
"Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸," he wrote in the caption.
Here's the video:
The three-time AL MVP has been out since April 29, having last played against the Philadelphia Phillies. An MRI was conducted on Trout's left knee, which revealed a torn meniscus, requiring surgery.
Six-eight weeks were anticipated before he could return, but he had a slow recovery, delaying his return. Now, his recovery is back on track, and he's expected to return before the end of July.
In a June 30 update shared by Rhett Bollinger, Mike Trout has "turned a corner" in his rehab. Bollinger reported that Trout is getting closer to "running and hitting in the cages."
Before hitting the injured list, Trout batted .220 and had 10 homers in 29 games.
Mike Trout return update: Angels manager shares positive development in the 11X All-Star's recovery
According to the latest update shared by Jeff Fletcher, Angels manager Ron Washington shared that Trout has started to hit off the tee and has begun running on the treadmill.
The MLB and the Angels are missing Trout at the plate. The Anaheim faithful have their fingers crossed, expecting Trout to lead the squad at least in the Wild Card round. However, that might be a little far-fetched, given the Angels' current 36-50 record.
After putting on an impressive 11 straight All-Star selections, Mike Trout missed out on this year's All-Star team. The Angels outfielder couldn't garner enough votes to advance to Phase 2. However, even if Trout had come out as an All-Star from the voting, he would not have played due to his injury.
