WATCH: Anthony Volpe exits game in pain after stray foul ball hits foot
Yankees ace shortstop Anthony Volpe exited Thursday's game in pain against the Angels. In the bottom of the second inning, Volpe was facing the in-form Halos when a stary foul ball hit him on his left leg.
The 85-mph slider hit the inside of Anthony's barrel and ricocheted off his trailing left leg as he immediately hit the dirt. Watch the video by Talkin' Yanks showing how Volpe got hit:
Anthony Volpe went 0-3 in the series finale at Yankee Stadium on Thursday. Oswaldo Cabrera replaced Volpe for the remainder of the game. Cabrera crushed a solo home run late in the game.
The Yanks failed to match the offensive output of the Angels unit and faltered with their bullpen as well. The Halos won the series finale 9-4, which sealed a series victory against the Yankees.
Game 1 of the three-game series, which was due to be played on Tuesday, was washed out due to heavy rains in the Bronx and was rescheduled as a doubleheader on Wednesday. The Bombers won game 1 of the doubleheader 5-2 before the Halos won the second 8-2.
Anthony Volpe struggled throughout the series against the Angels, registering only a single hit in 11 at-bats. He had a decent start to his 2024 campaign but hit a slump, which has hindered his form at the plate. Volpe is batting with an average of .257, with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and .705 OPS.
The NY Yankees are 68-48 for the season and hold the second spot in the AL East with a similar record to the table-leading Baltimore Orioles. The Bronx Bombers are 7-3 in their last 10 games of the regular season and will hope to win their upcoming series against the incumbent World Series winners.
The Yankees are waiting for a diagnosis on Anthony Volpe's left foot injury
Anthony Volpe was being examined by the team's head physician, Dr. Christopher Ahmad, after leaving the game in the eighth inning. The organization refrained from making any announcements about the gravity of the injury before the complete diagnosis is known.
It's being predicted that more information regarding Volpe's state will be made clear by Thursday night or Friday morning, when the Yankees continue their homestand in a series against the Texas Rangers.
