WATCH: Blue Jays RF George Springer gets ejected after enraged reaction to a wrong review decision by umpire crew
Blue Jays RF George Springer had a difficult outing against the LA Angels in game two of a three-game series on Tuesday night at Angel Stadium. The incident occurred in the top of the seventh inning when Springer lost his cool after an incorrect review decision by the umpire crew and ultimately got tossed out of the game.
Take a look at the video here:
In his fourth at-bat of the game, George Springer was down on a 1-2 count with one out in the seventh inning against Angels pitcher Kenny Rosenberg.
Rosenberg threw a slider, which was well away from the strike zone and down near Springer's feet. It seemed like it hit Springer as he immediately dropped his bat and headed towards first base.
But to his surprise, the home plate umpire, Manny Gonzalez, called it a ball. Springer immediately looked towards his dugout and signaled manager John Schneider to review the decision.
In the video replay, the ball seemed to have clipped the toe on George Springer's trailing right foot as it changed its path.
However, the umpire ruled that Springer did not get hit. The decision left Springer in disbelief as he made his disappointment known. The umpire then ejected Spring from the game.
Springer then proceeded to get in the umpire's face and animately pointed fingers at him.
Blue Jays manager John Schnieder rushed to the field to act as a barrier between an enraged Springer and the home plate umpire. Furthermore, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. tried to hold back Springer as he continued to go off on Manny Gonzalez.
George Springer has played supporting role to Vladdy in the Blue Jays' lineup
While Vladimir Guerrero Jr. leads the roster in all the offensive stats this season, George Springer and Daulton Varsho have played amazing second fiddle to Vladdy's offensive might.
George is batting .221, with 14 home runs (second on the team), 44 RBIs (third), and a .671 OPS so far this campaign. But despite his best efforts, the Blue Jays' hopes of making the playoffs have long slipped away as they sit at the bottom of the heavily contested AL East.
