WATCH: Brewers star Jackson Chourio signs rarest Topps card featuring MLB debut patch

Jackson Chourio is fresh off a stellar rookie season in which he led the Milwaukee Brewers to the playoffs. He is an NL Rookie of the Year finalist, though he faces an uphill battle to beat either Jackson Merrill or Paul Skenes for the award. Nevertheless, it was a great first season and it might mean that one day his rookie baseball card is worth a lot.

Chourio already has a rookie card that Topps made for his MLB debut. It features a patch of the jersey he wore that game, so it's worth a lot of money. It's also very rare, but the card brand offered the rookie the chance to sign it and add even more value.

With a glowing smile, Chourio carefully lifted the glass plate off the front and signed it. He was careful not to touch the card itself since that could damage it and tank the value.

When the outfielder was done, he replaced the glass, sealed up the now much more valuable card, and posed for a photo with it. Chourio made his MLB debut on March 29, which came after he signed an eight-year, $82-million extension with the Brewers.

Chourio's ascension helped the Brewers win the NL Central one year after losing their manager to the Chicago Cubs and trading away ace Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles.

While the odds aren't quite in his favor since Jackson Merrill and Paul Skenes both had historic and impressive seasons, Jackson Chourio could win the Rookie of the Year award. If he does, he will be the first one for the franchise since pitcher Devin Williams won it in 2020.

Throughout the entire history of the Rookie of the Year award, which dates back to 1947, just three Brewers have won it. There have been more nominees, but just three have taken home the hardware.

Before Williams won it in the shortened 2020 season, Ryan Braun's brilliant 2007 season awarded him the Rookie of the Year. In 1992, Pat Listach won the Rookie of the Year award, when Milwaukee was in the American League.
