WATCH: Dodgers' Joe Kelly makes hilarious trade with a fan for special edition Shohei Ohtani bobblehead
Joe Kelly had the most unexpected exchange with a fan during the LA Dodgers' special bobblehead night for Shohei Ohtani and his dog, Decoy. During a pre-game bullpen session, Kelly swapped his glove for a golden bobblehead of the generational player.
Ever since the Dodgers announced a special bobblehead night, the second this season for Shohei Ohtani, the hype has been off the charts. The team announced the first 40,000 fans who enter the stadium will receive the special souvenir. That said, few expected that fans would be lining up 10 hours before the game to get them.
One fan who made it ahead of time was in attendance to see the home side practice. He received a rare golden bobblehead featuring the Ohtani and his furry friend. In a video posted on X, the fan seems to be interacting with Joe Kelly, who then sends his son with his baseball glove to trade it for the prized collectible item.
Ashley Kelly also posted a picture later on her Instagram. In it, her son Knox shared the frame with the Dodgers DH holding the golden bobblehead.
Fans in attendance were also treated to a unique first pitch ceremony as Decoy 'threw' the pitch to Shohei. The Dutch Kooikerhondje ran from the pitcher's mound to the home plate and even gave his catcher a high five after the pitch.
Shohei Ohtani lifts the Dodgers in a see-saw encounter
Just like Decoy, Shohei Ohtani did his part in entertaining the Dodgers crowd. The 30-year-old went yard in the very first at-bat against Corbin Burnes. Later in the game, he stole two bases, one a double steal with Mookie Betts and another due to a wild pitch. Both times he scored a run, getting a career-high 104 runs scored, surpassing his 2021 mark.
The Dodgers overcame the Baltimore Orioles by a 6-4 score and Ohtani is on pace to become the first player in history to achieve a 50-50 season. His next target will be equalling his career high of 44 home runs, which he achieved last season, and seeing how far he can go from there.
The Dodgers are 79-54 and still 3.0 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are second in the NL West standings.
