WATCH: Elly De La Cruz's endearing response to "most excited player in baseball" question

Cincinnati Reds infielder Elly De La Cruz is one of the most exciting players in baseball, and this is something he believes in superlative terms. The Reds star is stitching together an unprecedented run in baserunning not seen in a while. He has stolen 57 bases, with much of the season still remaining. That's got to make him excited, isn't it?

So when MLB insider Jeff Passan asked him, "Who's the most exciting player?" De La Cruz let it be known.

"You're sitting right in front of him," he said.

At first, Passan didn't get what he said, so he re-answered in a more firm tone that he was indeed baseball's most exciting player. Here's the video:

For context, last season Esteury Ruiz stole 67 bases while playing for the Oakland Athletics. That number was the best mark since Jacoby Ellsbury stole 70 in the 2009 season. De La Cruz is on pace to eclipse both marks in 2024.

Elly De La Cruz hits two homers in victory; a fan called it ahead of it, received a signed bat

In Monday's 10-3 victory over the Miami Marlins at LoanDepot Park, Elly De La Cruz crushed two homers. The first one came in the first innings, while the second came in the eighth inning. He also added two doubles as he contributed three RBIs on the night.

In one of the game tweets from the Reds, a kid in the stands asked De La Cruz to hit a home run ahead of each of his blasts. Both times, the Reds infielder went deep at the plate. In his eighth-inning homer, he pointed to the kid for calling it ahead while rounding up the bases.

After the game, De La Cruz gifted a signed bat to the kid.

Coming into the game, Elly De La Cruz was 0-for-14. However, he responded to his critics with four extra-base hits in his winning effort.

Moreover, he became the second player in club history to hit two doubles and two home runs in the same game. In 1991, Paul O'Neill did so against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.
