Watch: Fan comes inches away from catching history as Shohei Ohtani's 50/50 club home run lands just out of reach

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani has made history on Thursday. The two-time MVP Award winner mashed three home runs and stole two bases to become the sole member of the 50/50 club.

With the home run being a huge milestone, catching that ball could be life-altering. Unfortunately, one fan can only wonder what could have been as he was inches away from catching history.

Watch the clip below:

The fan had two instances where he could have snagged the ball, but it was just out of his reach. The ball then bounced on the ground where it seems a Miami Marlins fan scooped it up.

Aaron Judge's 62nd home run ball from the 2022 season sold for $1.5 million. With Ohtani's reach, there is no telling how much this ball could go for when it hits the market.

Not only did Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani break history, he did it in incredible fashion. He certainly had the 50/50 club on his mind coming into Thursday's game.

Ohtani finished the evening by going 6-for-6 with three home runs, 10 runs batted in, and two stolen bases. To put it into perspective, the Marlins finished with just nine hits in total.

While he was already a favorite to win the NL MVP Award, he further distanced himself with this performance. He is nearly cemented to win the award, and if he does, it would be the third of his career so far.

There are only a handful of players in the history of the league that have three MVPs under their belt. Ohtani could join his former Los Angeles Angels teammate Mike Trout following the end of the season.
