Watch: Fans get into a bloody fistfight during Padres vs Twins game at Petco Park
The San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins were involved in an entertaining second game of the series at Petco Park on Tuesday. However, it's a clip from the stands that has gone viral for all the wrong reasons.
While players from both teams played their part in a fierce contest in the ballpark, two fans started a fistfight in the stands. One of the fans, reportedly a Padres supporter, was left with a bloodied face after taking several hits to his face.
The fan seen wearing a white vest initially dodged a couple of punches from the other fan, but instead of backing off, he seemingly further instigated the other fan and was subsequently caught off guard with a few punches to his midriff before taking more hits to his face.
A girl donning a Padres jersey can also be seen trying to stop the fight by holding back the fan in the white vest. The identity of both fans remains a mystery at the moment.
However, this isn't the first time fans have been involved in a fight at Petco Park. Earlier this season in March, during the Padres' series against division rivals San Francisco Giants, a brawl broke out on the concourse.
Padres leave it late on Tuesday to clinch series against Twins
The San Diego Padres have made it a habit of coming from behind to win games and Tuesday was no different. The home team trailed 3-1 after the end of the sixth but fought their way back after two runs in the seventh.
The game seemingly turned into a boxing bout as the Twins hit back instantly with two runs in the top eighth and the Padres responded with a four-run blast in the bottom of the inning to stun the visiting team.
Manny Machado, who was one of the heroes on the night for the team with his two-run drive to tie the game, quoted MLB icon Yogi Berra's famous words (via MLB.com):
“Til the game’s over, the game’s not over. This team’s been doing it all year. We’re going to continue to do it. Just keep having fun while we’re doing it,” Machado said.
The Padres (72-55) completed their 32nd come-from-behind win with the victory over the Twins as they maintain a slender lead in the NL West standings over the Arizona Diamondbacks (71-56) in the race for an NL Wild Card spot.
