Watch: Freddie Freeman goes down in pain after ankle twist while hustling to first base

The Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had to leave the game in between against the San Diego Padres on Thursday after he rolled his ankle in the seventh inning. Freeman was trying to earn an infield run during his surge towards the first base, however, he collided with Luis Alvarez and lost his balance, thus twisted his ankle.

He was interrupted by Alvarez in the middle of the run and had his right ankle in an inapt position after the collision. His body rolled over the ground and he sat up while holding his ankle in pain with both hands.

Freddie Freeman was escorted out of the Dodgers Stadium alongside the manager, Dave Roberts and a trainer, while Kike Hernandez took his place at first base. On the positive side, Freeman didn't require much assistance in walking out of the field, he was able to walk down the stairs and reach the clubhouse on his own.

The Dodgers ended up winning the game against the Padres and amidst the celebration, the cameras panned toward the fallen soldier. The fans could see Freddie Freeman on crutches and with a walking boot.

The Dodgers are not too worried about Freddie Freeman's injury

There hasn't been much update on the condition of Freeman's ankle but one of the posts uploaded by the Dodgers Insider disclosed that Freeman was quite optimistic despite facing an injury.

"Freddie Freeman said he has a sprained ankle. He’s in a walking boot but was smiling, joyful and optimistic that he will be ready for NLDS Game 1," the post read.

Fabian Adraya of The Athletic mentioned the views of team President Andrew Friedman on the matter.

"X-rays were negative on Freddie Freeman’s ankle, per Andrew Friedman. Won’t play this weekend, but they’re “not too worried.”," Adraya wrote.

Freeman is predicted to play in the NLDS Game 1. This is the second time Freeman has landed on the injured list after the All-Star break. He previously suffered a hairline fracture in the right middle finger. He was given three games off and joined the team again during the series opener against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the end of August.
