WATCH: Freddie Freeman watches in disbelief as Giancarlo Stanton's two-run moonshot gives Yankees lead against Dodgers in WS Game 1
Freddie Freeman was left stunned when Giancarlo Stanton blasted a go-ahead two-run homer to give the New York Yankees the lead in Game 1 of the World Series.
The Los Angeles Dodgers had taken a slender 1-0 lead when a Will Smith sacrifice fly towards right field allowed Enrique Hernandez to score in the fifth inning. However, the lead did not last long, as Stanton hit a huge two-run moonshot into the left field stands to put the New York Yankees on top in the sixth.
Freeman, along with the entire stadium, was left stunned by the 412-foot blast from New York's designated hitter.
Freeman is a veteran in MLB, having started his major league career with the Atlanta Braves in 2010. Having finished second in the NL Rookie of the Year voting in his first full season, the infielder quickly established himself as one of the best players in the league. He has since made eight All-Star appearances and won the NL MVP in 2020.
Having led the Braves to the World Series title in 2021, Freeman is no stranger to the biggest stage in baseball. He hit a home run in Game 5 of the series against the Houston Astros as the Braves went on to win the title in Game 6.
Nonetheless, he too was left awestruck as Stanton hit a game-changing two-run blast into left field. As the two biggest teams in MLB battle it out for the ultimate prize, the highly anticipated series has been a tense affair so far.
Freddie Freeman hits walk-off grand slam to win Game 1 of the World Series for the Dodgers
While he was impressed with Giancarlo Stanton's big hit in the sixth inning, Freddie Freeman had the final say in Game 1 of the World Series.
The tension was high when the closely contested game entered the 10th inning with the score tied at 2-2. The Yankees then scored thanks to a gorunder from Anthony Volpe, putting the pressure on the Dodgers in the bottom of the inning.
Freeman then stepped up for his fifth at-bat of the night with the bases loaded and the opportunity to win the game for the Dodgers.
In typical fashion, he proceeded to blast a walk-off grand slam on a Nestor Cortes pitch to win the game, 6-3. That gave the Dodgers an early 1-0 lead in the series.
