Watch: Gleyber Torres’ running mishap costs Yankees with Aaron Judge on deck

New York Yankees second baseman Gleyber Torres was caught in a running mishap in a crucial moment during their series opener against the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday. The Orioles ultimately went on to record a 5-3 victory at Yankee Stadium to start the series with a win and possibly clinch a playoff spot.

Over a tightly contested game, Torres didn't have much luck in the seventh inning when a Juan Soto RBI double saw him get caught in a rundown between third and fourth bases. Ultimately, the Yankees were unable to catch up to the O's in the final moments of the game.

While he was originally signed by the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2013, Torres was traded to the Bronx Bombers in 2016. Since then, he has established himself as a regular starter despite several setbacks over his career. Torres struggled over the first two months of the season this year but has since found his form, which has coincided with his move to the leadoff spot in the Yankees lineup.

Torres has been crucial in the Yankees' run to the playoffs, providing capable backup to the Judge-Soto partnership. However, things didn't go well for him in the seventh inning. He started with a hit deep into right field and bounced into the stands for an RBI double, which otherwise would have resulted in a two-run hit.

Moments later, with Aaron Judge on deck, Juan Soto hit an RBI double which allowed Alex Verdugo to score. However, Torres tried to run home base and got caught in a rundown, bringing a disappointing end to the inning for the Yankees.

Aaron Judge blasts 56th homer of the season while Gleyber Torres records embarrassing running numbers

Proving once again that he is the best hitter in baseball, New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge blasted his 56th home run of the season. As the end of the regular season draws closer, Judge seems to have picked up his pace and comfortably leads the AL in long shots.

On the other hand, Gleyber Torres' running mishap in the seventh inning means that he is tied for the most outs at home this season, a record he will not be proud of. While his on-base percentage has improved over the course of the MLB season, he has made too many costly plays this season, which has hurt the Yankees on several occasions.

The Yankees and Orioles will meet again for the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday.
