Watch: Kike Hernandez deliberately drops the ‘F-bomb’ after asking Ken Rosenthal if they were live
LA Dodgers utilityman Kike Hernandez helped his team take down rivals, the San Diego Padres, after an intense NLDS Game 5 on Friday. With the help of homers from Hernandez (in the second inning) and Teoscar Hernandez (in the seventh) and an exceptional pitching performance from Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Dodgers punched their tickets to the NLCS.
There was drama throughout the series. Even MLB analyst Ken Rosenthal got into the crosshairs of the Padres players and fans after his controversial article on Manny Machado.
Rosenthal, who was reporting from the sidelines, asked Kike Hernandez what's different about this team.
The versatile fielder dropped an F-bomb after asking whether they were live:
"Are we live? The fact that we don't give a f**k."
Kike Hernandez's reaction was a hint at cutting out the noise after the Dodgers became public enemy No. 1 following a few fans' disrespectful behavior in the outfield with the Padres' Jurickson Profar.
Kike Hernandez provides perfect end to Dodgers vs Padres rivalry
There weren't more highly-anticipated matchups than the NLDS that involved the Dodgers taking on the Padres. Throughout the year, both teams battled for the division lead. Though the Dodgers had the last laugh, the Padres and the Arizona Diamondbacks gave them a hard time.
In the regular season, the two teams met 13 times, with the Padres leading 8-5.
In Game 1 of the NLDS series, the Dodgers won 7-5. However, the Padres responded with two straight wins to take the lead and push the NL West winners on the brink of elimination. However, the Dodgers held firm at a hostile Petco Park in Game 4 to push the series into a decisive fifth game.
Game 5 saw an exciting pitching duel from two Japanese aces: Yoshinobu Yamamoto for the Dodgers and Yu Darvish for the Padres. The former emerged the winner, but Darvish's pitching was also as good. However, Darvish exited after allowing two solo home runs from Kike Hernandez and Teoscar Hernandez.
The Padres' lackluster offense is the primary reason they aren't facing the New York Mets in the NLCS. They'll have to wait for their turn next year as the Dodgers continue their bid for the World Series title.
