Watch: Lars Nootbaar, Keynan Middleton & other teammates reveal their favorite features of Cardinals City Connect uniforms
The St. Louis Cardinals are a team in form recently; after going 8-2 in their last 10, they have risen in the NL Central. Riding a five-game winning streak, the Cardinals are 25-26 and third in the division, bridging the gap with the 30-22 Milwaukee Brewers in first.
While MLB jerseys have been a controversial topic in 2024, with many aspects being criticized by fans, the players have had their say on St. Louis' City Connect jerseys.
In a video posted by the Cardinals' Instagram handle, multiple players had their say on the jerseys. Lars Nootbar, asked about his favorite aspect of the jersey, responded:
"Probably the Lou right here."
Other players were also asked for their opinions, including Michael Siani, Ryan Helsley, Kyle Gibson, Ivan Herrera and Keynan Middleton, among others. See the clip below:
St. Louis wore the City Connect jerseys on Saturday versus their division rivals, the Chicago Cubs, and came away with an important 7-6 win. They followed up with a 4-3 win on Sunday and now prepare for a series against the 23-30 Cincinnati Reds on Monday.
St. Louis president Bill DeWitt III shares his thoughts on the Cardinals' City Connect jerseys
St. Louis president Bill DeWitt III is certainly a fan of the City Connect jerseys and discussed the project, which he said he enjoyed. Here's what he said last week (via MLB.com):
“This was a fun process, because the iconography of Cardinals baseball and its history is endless on what you can do, so narrowing it down was hard. Having the story [of the uniforms] be new, but still kind of a flashback, is something we’re really proud of.
“We’ve never had a red jersey -- even though half of the [fans] have red on, but we’ve always focused on wearing that jersey in Spring Training and batting practice."
DeWitt also mentioned how the red is new for the team but is not too "radical":
“We’ve had everything but red on the field, so for me, going red was new. This allows us to be different with something we’ve never done, but also not so radical with a color that’s not a part of the family.”
With fans also loving the uniforms, it appears to be an MLB jersey success story amid a lot of backlash in 2024.
