WATCH: Olivia Dunne impresses boyfriend Paul Skenes with her fastball grip, admits she's 'more of a splinker girl' at All-Star red carpet
Pittsburgh Pirates rookie All-Star Paul Skenes and his girlfriend Olivia Dunne turned heads as they made their way through the 2024 MLB All-Star Game's red carpet at Globe Life Field. Skenes was in a white overall outfit, while Livvy was in a sparkling silver dress.
As they engaged in a red-carpet interview, Skenes asked Dunne to show him a fastball grip. The LSU star knew it was called a "four seamer" and went on to place her first three fingers on the baseball, eliciting a humorous reaction from Skenes. In her defense, Dunne said:
"I am more of a splinker girl."
Here's the video:
Dunne, who's coming off attending the 2024 ESPYs in LA, said it's one of the most fun red carpets she has ever been on. She went on to describe their outfits, adding that Skenes chose his outfit for himself.
"I'm wearing a neutral-colored sparkly dress down to the floor. He's wearing a white suit and a black tie," Dunne said. "Actually, he chose it himself."
"Yeah, I can dress myself," Skenes added.
Olivia Dunne then went on to praise Skenes for his pitching abilities.
"My brain can't even process how hard he throws," she said. "It is incredible, and it's such a joy to watch, and he's a great baseball player but an even better person."
For the game, Dunne went with NL threads over a black custom vest with "Skenes" written on it and complemented the outfit with a white Cowboys boot.
Olivia Dunne cheers during intense Paul Skenes-Juan Soto showdown
The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie started the game for the NL side, retiring Steven Kwan and Gunnar Henderson to take up on Juan Soto at the plate and Aaron Judge waiting on deck.
Ahead of the game, Soto was locked in to have Judge in the first innings. That could only happen had Paul Skenes given up a hit or walk to Soto. During this intense battle, Olivia Dunne, seated in the stands, sent out a loud cheer for Skenes:
"LET'S GO PAUL!" Livvy said.
The Paul Skenes-Juan Soto showdown eventually ended up with the pitcher walking him to face Judge. However, the Yankees captain couldn't live up to the hype and grounded out to end the first.
