WATCH: Padres star Jackson Merrill signs Topps card featuring MLB Rookie Debut Patch
San Diego Padres slugger Jackson Merrill is coming off a fantastic rookie season. He started 156 games this past season, hitting .292/.326/.500 with 24 home runs and 90 runs batted in.
He put himself in the running to win the National League Rookie of the Year Award, but could not surpass Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes. He finished in second place, just 32 points behind the flamethrower.
Merrill nearly could not have asked for a better rookie season. To cap off that season, he recently signed his 1/1 MLB Rookie Debut Patch card, which should go for a pretty penny when pulled.
Watch the clip below:
This is not the only rookie 1/1 that is getting a ton of attention. Paul Skenes' card is generating a ton of buzz, and Jackson Chourio's Rookie Debut patch recently sold for $105,000.
Pulling Jackson Merrill's 1/1 could be very lucrative for a lucky fan
Pulling 1/1s is something that most collectors dream of, especially those of rookies with a ton of potential. The value of these cards is astounding, but a good payday is not the only thing that comes with these cards.
With the surge in popularity of card collecting over recent years, players are starting to collect their cards. Paul Skenes and the Pittsburgh Pirates are no different, and they put a bounty on Skenes' Rookie Debut card.
Pittsburgh put together an offer that includes two season tickets behind home plate for the next 30 years. That alone would be worth it for most, but they also added a softball game experience at PNC Park along with some other goodies.
While there is no current offer, do not be surprised if the Padres put a bounty on Jackson Merrill's Rookie Debut Patch.
