WATCH: Rays' Jose Siri showed his basketball moves with a dugout jumpshot as Tampa Bay team routed Blue Jays
Jose Siri seems to have gotten bored of baseball as Tampa Bay Rays hitters crushed the Toronto Blue Jays 13-0 on Thursday at Rogers Centre. During the eighth innings of the game, Siri decided to show off his basketball moves.
Siri was in an interview with a sideline reporter, who asked him to show his jumpshot. The 29-year-old outfielder soon went on to the stairs of the dugout, dribbling with baseball and finally making the jumpshot pose, leaving everyone around him joyous.
Siri was not in Thursday's lineup, which had the Rays registering an emphatic victory. On the mound, the Rays' Taj Bradley pitched six scoreless innings, followed by Edwin Uceta, who pitched two scoreless innings and then Colin Poche put the lid on the game, shutting down the Blue Jays' offense.
Brandon Lowe was the best hitter on the night, going 4-4, including one homer, three RBIs and two runs scored. Isaac Paredas chipped in with four RBIs, Alex Jackson with three, Josh Lowe with one and Randy Arozarena with one.
Chris "Mad Dog" Russo rips into Jose Siri's slow home run trot
The other day, when Jose Siri homered off against Carlos Rodon of the New York Yankees, "Mad Dog" Russo wasn't impressed with him slowly rounding up the bases. While on ESPN's First Take, Russo threw jabs at his baserunning.
“They’re losing the game! Look how long it takes him to walk around the bases. I mean this is absolutely ridiculous!” Russo said. “He’s not Willie Mays! He’s not Henry Aaron! This is mind-boggling! He takes forever, and they’re losing 5-0 at the time for crying out loud!”
Russo didn't stop there as he went on to compare fans at Tropicana Field, home of the Rays to that of Yankee Stadium.
“Hey, Jose! You draw 5,000 a game in that dump at the Tropicana!” Russo continued. “And it ain’t cheap to go to the ballgame! Do you have any idea how much it costs even to park the car? And he’s ripping the Yankees fan for booing the Yankee player who hasn’t played that well? Who loafs and doesn’t do anything? And you take three hours to run around the bases? Oh my God, what a clown!”
This comes after Jose Siri commented on the Yankees fan base who booed their own home teams as the outfielder mocked them, saying:
“They boo a lot here,” Siri said through a translator. “They even boo their own team. I don’t think that’s a good thing.” [via AP News].
It seems Russo wasn't going to let Jose Siri get unscathed for his comments on the Yankees fanbase.
