WATCH: ‘Yankees suck’ chants ring around Mets stadium as home fans unite with Red Sox fans in unexpected show of solidarity

Boston Red Sox fans probably do not have much in common with their New York Mets counterparts besides their animosity toward the New York Yankees. The Mets and the Red Sox are playing a three-game series this week at Citi Field and their fans joined to chant "Yankees suck" during their first meeting on Monday night.

@TalkinBaseball_ from Jomboy Media posted a short clip on X/Twitter where the "Yankees suck" chants from spectators in the stadium were caught by the television microphones:

The moment was captured during the top of the third inning with the score tied at 1-1. Wilyer Abreu stepped up to the plate for the visitors with two outs and no runners on to face the home team's starting pitcher Luis Severino on the mound.

The clip begins with a replay of a slide from Jarren Duran to grab second base, where he gets tagged out just before he can complete the play. The reigning World Series MVP had leveled the game with a shot to right field, although he was forced out while trying to get a hustled double.

As the SNY announcers were describing the play live on air, loud chants of "Yankees suck" could be heard distinctly in the background. The camera then centered on right fielder Starling Marte, who made the throw to get the assist on the previous out. Marte could seemingly hear the crowd chanting from behind as well, as it looked like he had to work hard not to laugh.

In terms of history and success, the Red Sox and Mets are as different from each other as chalk and cheese. The two teams have a rivalry that dates back to the dramatic 1986 World Series. However, their mutual dislike for the New York Yankees seemingly has the power to bring both sets of fans together as one.
