WATCH: Ryan Pressly throws live BP session facing Jon Singleton and Chas McCormick, on track to return from the IL soon

Houston Astros pitcher Ryan Pressly has been recovering from an injury while working toward his comeback. After suffering a lower back strain, he was placed on the 15-day injured list on August 17.

Ryan Pressly has been responding well in his bullpen sessions and went on to throw live batting practice on the mound at Citizens Bank Park on Monday.

Here is the clip of Pressly's live batting session:

Before the Houston Astros' series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies, the two-time All-Star threw 25 pitches without any issues while facing Chas McCormick and Jon Singleton. The Astros lost 3-2 against the Phillies.

With Ryan Pressly showing good signs during his rehab, he might not need to go on a rehab assignment and could return to the Astros as scheduled on August 29 during their home game against the Kansas City Royals.

The last time Pressly pitched for his team was on August 14, during their game against the Tampa Bay Rays. He threw one inning, allowing two hits and a run while striking out one batter.

Astros manager Joe Espada opens up about Ryan Pressly’s BP session and comeback

The Houston Astros are dealing with injuries to their pitching staff, including Lance McCullers Jr., Cristian Javier, and Luis Garcia, who have little to no chance of returning to the team this season. At this point in the 2024 season, the Astros could really use Ryan Pressly’s services.

Discussing his recent live BP session and return to the team, manager Joe Espada said (via MLB.com):

"He came out of it feeling good. He should be able to come off [the IL] on Thursday [for] that first game against [the Royals]."

Ryan Pressly is in the second year of the two-year contract extension he signed with the Houston Astros, covering the 2023 and 2024 seasons, with an option for the 2025 season. So far this season, he has recorded a 3.86 ERA.

In the 46.2 innings he has pitched over 49 games, Pressly has allowed 50 hits and 20 earned runs. The Houston Astros (70-61) are leading the AL West with a .534 winning percentage.

They will face the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday in the second game of their three-game series.
