Watch: Tensions rise as Jesse Winker and Willy Adames exchange words after game-tying triple during Brewers vs Mets showdown
Even though the postseason has just started, New York Mets slugger Jesse Winker has already made his presence felt against his former club. Winker, who played for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2023, took more than one shot at his former club during Tuesday's Wild Card action.
The veteran outfielder came up huge for the New York Mets in the top of the 2nd inning, tying the game with a clutch two-run triple. While Winker's clutch at-bat may have stung enough, the veteran was not finished with his former club. After tying the game, Winker appeared to have a few choice words for his former teammate Willy Adames.
While it remains unclear why Winker and Adames were going at one another, it's clear that the competitive nature of both stars came out in the play.
Despite entering Tuesday's action as the underdogs, New York's 2024 squad has been characterized by not backing down from anyone, something that Winker embodied fully.
It was an action-packed game between Milwaukee and New York, with both teams exchanging leads throughout the game. Ultimately, New York was able to keep their momentum alive, taking the first game of the National League Wild Card round, 8-4.
If the first game of this series is any indication of what's to come between these two teams, fans could be in store for something special. Game 2 of the series will take place on Wednesday in Milwaukee. Only time will tell if Adames and Winker will keep jawing at one another as the series progresses.
The New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers had beef earlier this season
It's uncertain if Jesse Winker and Willy Adames have any history with one another, however, the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers have not exactly been fans of one another this season.
Earlier this season, former Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Rhys Hoskins sparked an altercation with New York's Jeff McNeil after sliding into second hard, something that didn't sit well with the infielder, leading to both benches clearing.
Following the game, McNeil said that he felt Hoskins' aggressive slide was unnecessary. On the other side, Hoskins felt that McNeil was overreacting to the entire sliding situation.
While the incident between McNeil and Hoskins occurred during the first series of the season, it's unclear if Adames and Winker have kept that fire alive. Either way, playoff baseball is well underway.
