WATCH: Tyler Glasnow, Freddie Freeman, Bobby Witt Jr., Adley Rutschman, and other MLB stars name their favorite Olympic sport
The 2024 Paris Olympics are officially underway, drawing millions of eyes worldwide. As the biggest sporting event of the year, the summer games showcase thousands of athletes from across the globe competing in their particular events with hopes of etching their names in history.
Just like every other sports fan tuning in, the players in the Major League Baseball are also keeping tabs to see who would emerge victorious in this year's games. In the recently concluded MLB All-Star Weekend, a few of the league's top stars shared their excitement for the competition and talked about their favorite events to watch.
"These MLB All-Stars love the Olympics. What's your favorite Olympic sport?," captioned @MLB on X/Twitter.
Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals, Garrett Crochet of the Chicago White Sox and Steven Kwan of the Cleveland Guardians were some of the players who chose the water events—swimming, diving and water polo.
Meanwhile, track and field was a popular choice, and Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman gave his reason as to why he leaned in its direction.
"Track and Field because I can't run fast and I like watching people run fast," he said.
Freeman's teammate, Tyler Glasnow, also favored the said sport.
Orioles star Adley Rutschman gave a more personal reason behind his favorite Olympic event
While some of the players chose their favorite event based on skills that they lack or because they enjoy watching others dominate, Adley Rutschman gave a more heartwarming response.
The Baltimore Orioles catcher chose heptathlon because his girlfriend is a heptathlete. The heptathlon consists of an individual competitor competing across seven different track and field events, including the 100-meter hurdles, high jump, shot put and the 800-meter run. While Rutschman's baseball skills are impressive, the heptathlon is on a different level.
