What happened with Julio Urias' domestic battery charge? All you need to know about the latest video update in ex-Dodgers star's case

Julio Urias was arrested for domestic violence in September 2023. He was placed on the exempt list before eventually leaving the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has remained unsigned since. A new video about the incident surfaced on September 19.

In the video, the former MLB star can be seen running to catch up with her wife before violently grabbing her and pushing her up against the nearby fence. A couple of bystanders immediately intervened.

It took several seconds to peel the incensed pitcher off, and when he did separate, Urias appeared to throw a punch in the direction of his wife and those who had intervened. One bystander was directly involved in keeping him at bay, and the ex-pitcher was hurling insults all the while.

Several others got involved to keep Urias back, and the fence they were in front of nearly came down. Things finally de-escalated from there, and the situation ended. MLB has yet not decided if he should be suspended, as he remains a free agent.

In April of this year, Urias was charged with five misdemeanors:

  • One count of spousal battery
  • One count of false imprisonment
  • One count of assault
  • Two counts of domestic battery involving a dating relationship

He pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor domestic battery charge and was placed on a 36-month probation. The remaining four charges were dismissed,

Revisiting Dodgers statement on Julio Urias

The Los Angeles Dodgers acted swiftly when Julio Urias was arrested. They didn't wait around and didn't let him return to the team. Their initial statement read via CBS Sports:

"We are aware of an incident involving Julio Urías. While we attempt to learn all the facts, he will not be traveling with the team. The organization has no further comment at this time."

The league also released its own statement at the time:

"Per an agreement between MLB and the MLBPA, Julio Urías has been placed on Administrative Leave until further notice as MLB continues its ongoing investigation.
"The administrative leave, which is effective immediately, is not disciplinary under the Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. We will refrain from further comment until the appropriate time."

They ultimately suspended him for 20 games, but he didn't pitch again at all and became a free agent. They are considering what to do with him moving forward, though no team seems prepped to sign him.
