WATCH: Yankees fan tries to steal ball out of Mookie Betts' glove in Game 4 of World Series
Mookie Betts and the Los Angeles Dodgers sit one victory away from raising their second World Series title in five seasons. The All-Star outfielder has been a key factor for the Dodgers throughout the postseason both at the plate and in the outfield. Well, it wasn't long before Mookie found himself and his glove in the middle of the action, however, it wasn't exactly a routine play.
In the bottom of the first inning, New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres hit a rather routine pop fly to right field. As Mookie Betts went to make the catch near the right field wall, the outfielder jumped up, reaching into the crowd. While Betts made the catch, a New York Yankees fan got ahold of his glove and refused to let go.
It remains to be seen what will happen to the New York Yankees fan at the center of the incident. However, it seems likely that he may need to continue watching the game from somewhere else besides Yankee Stadium.
The umpiring crew ruled Gleyber Torres out on the play, calling it fan interference. Although Mookie Betts was able to make the catch, the New York Yankees fan did not help their cause. With the fate of their season on the line, perhaps fans would best be advised to leave the outfield player alone.
Mookie Betts has been enjoying a strong postseason for the Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers have long been considered one of the favorites to win the World Series thanks to their star-studded lineup that features the likes of Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, and Freddie Freeman.
While Freddie Freeman has stolen the show with his World Series home run surge, Betts has been pulling his own weight in front of him in the lineup. Through three World Series games, Mookie has posted a solid .333 batting average with an .808 OPS.
Mookie's ability to get on base has been crucial for the Los Angeles Dodgers, particularly with Freddie Freeman batting behind him in the order. While the New York Yankees fan who attempted to grab the ball may have been having fun, it might be Mookie who will get the last laugh considering the Dodgers' dominant 3-0 World Series lead.
