Watch: Yankees fans take over Progressive Field with "Re-Sign Soto" chants after Juan Soto's ALCS heroics sends team to World Series
New York Yankees slugger Juan Soto's status as a fan favorite was elevated after his postseason heroics in ALCS Game 5 against the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday.
The All-Star outfielder smashed a clutch go-ahead three-run home run with the scores tied 2-2 in the 10th inning. With the Yankees leading 5-2 after Soto's moonshot, closer Luke Weaver closed out the game to win Game 5, sending the Bronx Bombers to the World Series for the first time since 2009.
Juan Soto is expected to hit free agency at the end of the season and is likely to attract several teams for his services. However, the Yankees fans are adamant that New York resigns him, and this has been evident from the "Re-sign Soto" chants at Yankee Stadium this season.
While the chant has been a feature in the Bronx this year, the traveling Yankees fans took over the Progressive Field in Cleveland to start the chant after Soto's heroics on Saturday.
The Dominican slugger seemingly enjoyed the chants as Yankees players and manager Aaron Boone lined up to lift the AL pennant trophy.
MLB insider ponders contract value to sign Juan Soto in upcoming free agency
Veteran MLB insider Jon Heyman weighed in on Juan Soto's upcoming free agency, sharing an estimated contract sum to sign the coveted outfielder in the offseason.
"I know that number has been floated out there," Heyman said via Bleacher Report. "I think I've floated out $500 million... That's kind of been the number for the last year or so with Soto after turning down the $440 million. I think $600 million at this point is probably the number."
With Juan Soto making a lasting impression in his first season with the Yankees, the Bronx Bombers are likely to break the bank for the superstar slugger. However, city rivals New York Mets are one of the teams rumored to fight tooth and nail to sign Soto.
