Watch: Yankees’ Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Liberty’s Jonquel Jones rock each other’s jerseys in show of support before their games
Jazz Chisholm Jr. of the New York Yankees and the New York Liberty's Jonquel Jones showed mutual support on Sunday by arriving in the other's jersey. Both Chisholm and Jones hail from the Bahamas.
Jones arrived for her game against the Minnesota Lynx at Barclays Center wearing the iconic pinstripes over a black T-shirt along with a chain, while Chisholm sported Jones' number 35 jersey over a hoodie when he arrived for the Yankees' game against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium.
Since making the move over to the New York Yankees from the Miami Marlins, Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been in good touch, as his hitting and pace have proven great assets for Aaron Boone's side. For the 2024 season, the 26-year-old is batting .262 with 22 homers and 66 RBIs.
Jonquel Jones has also had a great 2024 campaign so far, averaging 14.6 points, 9.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. The Liberty currently sit comfortably atop the Eastern Conference with a sizeable gap over the next best team.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. walkoff hit wins series for Yankees
The New York Yankees won the rubber game of the series against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, as Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit an infield single in the bottom of the 11th to seal the game in his team's favor.
In what was a relatively low-scoring affair, both starting pitchers, Luis Gil (Yankees) and Cole Ragans, had good outings on the mound, giving up one and two earned runs respectively. After winning the series against the Royals, the Yankees went on to win the opening two games of their series against rivals the Boston Red Sox.
Next, the Yankees head to Seattle to face fellow AL West challengers the Mariners. Luis Gil (Yankees) and Bryan Woo (Mariners) take to the mound as the opening game on Tuesday has all the makings of a great pitcher's duel.
