"We didn't know if Aaron Judge was from another planet" - Ex-Yankees coach says team captain's HR slump proves he's human
Aaron Judge's slump has started to worry Yankees fans as the postseason is fast approaching. The captain has been unable to hit a home run in 14 games, a career-high for the slugger since 2019.
During this spell, Judge has hit 9-for-51 with a .196 batting average. He has not generated the same power at the plate. Despite his slump, he still leads the home run charts with 51 this year.
This prompted ex-Yankees coach and podcast host Sean Casey to claim that Judge is finally showing signs of being a human.
"It just shows how good this guy is," Casey said on The Mayor's Office podcast. "He's got 51 home runs, and he's approaching his longest draught like he's human. There was for a while, we didn't know if he was from another planet. Turns out he is human, and I think one thing about Judgy is when he gets hot, he gets really hot.
"I think this is a perfect time for him to kind of have a little bit of a lull because when he gets going, he gets going. Right into postseason, that's where you want them hot."
Aaron Judge's slump mirrors disastrous start to season
On May 2, Aaron Judge was batting at a .197 average with a below-par .725 OPS. The center fielder had a dismal month of April. But things changed as he powered himself to AL Player of the Month awards in May and June. He has since continued that form, winning the award in August as well.
The Yankees had a 20-13 record through till May 2, but that hasn't been the case this time around. The responsibility to perform and get wins for the Bronx Bombers kept increasing on Judge as the season progressed. In the fourteen games he hasn't hit a home run, the Yankees are 6-8.
