“We need better results, frankly” - Cubs manager Craig Counsell discusses Kyle Hendricks’ struggling journey on the mound

After a rough start this season, veteran pitcher Kyle Hendricks is yet to find his momentum on the mound. The Chicago Cubs have been waiting for Hendricks to open up with his performance; however, his attempts to make ends meet have failed again.

Hendricks struggled against the Miami Marlins in his fifth start of the season. The 34-year-old pitcher was forced to return to the dugout after pitching four innings. Hendricks lacked control as he surrendered four runs to the Marlins.

Cubs manager Craig Counsell shared his thoughts on Hendricks' performance in his last few games. According to Counsell, Hendricks has improved, but they needed better results.

"I thought there was positive signs. There was no walks, there's five strikeouts," Counsell said. "I do think that he limited the hard contact for most part, but they strung together a good rally, and we are still looking at four runs on the board in four innings. But, we need better results, frankly."

Kyle Hendricks remains optimistic about his direction

Despite a shaky start against the Marlins, Kyle Hendricks has shown improvement from his past pitching performance. Hendricks sees the challenges without results but remains optimistic about his direction.

“It's just tough with the results not being there. It's a results-based game. It's obviously not good on that end but got to take the positives in the right direction. Just got to put it together here,” Kyle Hendricks said.

In all his five starts, Hendricks has not lasted for more than five innings. The veteran holds a terrible 12.00 ERA. In 21 innings, he surrendered 28 runs and 37 hits. The Cubs have struggled with Hendricks on the mound, and it's time for the pitcher to pick up the pace.

The next outing has to be a positive one for the pitcher as pressure starts to mount. Cubs fans would hope for Hendricks to rebound and get back on track soon.
