"We're gonna win it, the Royals just got lucky" - Jazz Chisholm Jr. promises a strong comeback after Yankees drop ALDS Game 2 on home turfÂ
New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is confident that the team will fight back and win the American League Division Series after losing Game 2 to the Kansas City Royals on Monday evening. Chisholm Jr. feels the Royals were fortunate to win the game and level the series at 1-1 because the Yankees failed to capitalize on their opportunities.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. came to the Bronx from the Miami Marlins at the trade deadline and has gone on to make a massive impact for his new team within a short space of time. Chisholm Jr. batted .273/.325/.500 with 11 home runs and 23 RBIs in the 46 games he played for the Yankees during the regular season. He went 1-4 in Game 2 of the ALDS with a solo home run in the 4-2 loss to the Royals.
Following the defeat, Chisholm spoke to reporters to speak about the performance of the team.
"We're gonna win it," Chisholm Jr. said. "We had a lot of missed opportunities. [The Royals] just got lucky.
"I feel like this team is the best to do it," he added on the Yankees' chances of making a strong comeback in the series. "One day we get our butts kicked, and the next day we're kicking butts. We turn around everything. We don't look at anything as a downer. Come back and learn from it the next day."
In Game 1, the Yankees had surrendered an early lead but came back to win the opening clash of the series. On Monday, they lost Game 2 despite scoring the first run.
It could have been anybody: Jazz Chisholm Jr. on his home run
The Yankees grabbed the initial lead against the Kansas City Royals in Game 2 of the ALDS after a Giancarlo Stanton single drove in Gleyber Torres for the opening run of the game. However, starting pitcher Carlos Rodon gave up four runs in the fourth inning as the Royals clung on to their advantage even though Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in the ninth to reduce the deficit.
"It could have been anybody, not just me," Chisholm Jr. said. "It was a long game. Hard hit balls were getting caugh out there, couple of unlucky plays.
"A lot of good plays on the field. A lot of diving catches out there. I felt we swung the bat well, but just [hit the ball] right at people," he added.
The Bronx Bombers will now travel to the Midwest to take on the Royals in Game 3 at Kauffman Stadium on Wednesday.
