"We're just looking forward to doing that again this year" - Diamondbacks pitcher Brandon Pfaadt excited for second-half push following deadline
Brandon Pfaadt and the Arizona Diamondbacks are looking to make the postseason for a second consecutive year. They currently sit in third place in the National League West, three games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It took a strong push to make the postseason last year. They were 57-51 come August 1 last season, and ended up being the final team to clinch a postseason spot.
The team's record is nearly identical to what it was at this point last season, and players are starting to get healthy. This is not a team to sleep on, and Pfaadt reiterated that point recently on MLB Network Radio.
"We're just playing the game that we knew we could play at the beginning of the year. We're starting to get healthy and I think that's kind of helping bring those vibes to a positive manner and get on a roll," said Pfaadt.
Arizona is currently on a four-game winning streak. They most recently swept the red-hot Cleveland Guardians in an impressive three-game series.
Pfaadt later went on to discuss the importance of what the team did over the trade deadline. They acquired some impact players like Josh Bell, A.J. Puk, and Dylan Floro to help with their second-half push.
"You saw last year what we did with those two new additions and we're just looking forward to doing that again this year," said Pfaadt.
Brandon Pfaadt and the Diamondbacks have been hot as of late
The Diamondbacks have emerged as one of baseball's hottest teams. They started the year mediocre but have since figured out how to get the ball rolling and have not looked back.
Brandon Pfaadt has held down the rotation alongside Eduardo Rodgriguez with an early injury to their ace, Zac Gallen. However, Gallen has returned and the club has gone 24-9 since.
Offensively, Arizona has been led by Ketel Marte. He has been playing out of his mind this season and is in contention to win the National League MVP Award. He has played 110 games, hitting .298/.368/.559 with 29 home runs and 80 runs batted in.
For what they did last season, this is not a team to sleep on. They know what it takes to go on a magical run and have gotten better following the trade deadline. Watch out for the D-Backs from here on out.
