What is the disease that affects Freddie Freeman's son Max? All you need to know about rare neurological condition

LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman hit a walk-off grand slam against the New York Yankees on Friday, which sent Chavez Ravine into a frenzy. His clutch home run helped the Dodgers prevail the Yankees 6-3 and take the lead by winning Game 1 of the ongoing World Series.

This comes after he and his family faced a significant health scare after his youngest son Max came down with an infection post-the All-Star break. He was then diagnosed with a rare neurological condition, the Guillian Barre syndrome. This led him to take some time off the roster while her wife Chelsea provided regular updates on her son.

What happened to Freddie Freeman's son?

The Freeman family traveled to Globe Life Field in July for the 2024 All-Star game. Max came down with an infection and a few weeks later Chelsea updated that their son had "developed transient synovitis from the viral infection he had at All-Star Week."

In late July, Max had to be rushed to the hospital since he underwent full-body paralysis. Freddie Freeman, who was in Houston, rushed back to LA to be with his family.

Chelsea updated:

"After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. A rare neurological condition that is especially rare in children. These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives."

Later, the couple updated that Max was taken off the ventilator.

Three days later, another update came in on Aug. 5 where Chelsea provided a heartwarming update about Max's health:

"After 8 long days in the Pediatric ICU we are officially HOME! Max still has a long road ahead of him to regain his strength and relearn how to walk. But we are so thankful to have our family back together."

What's the latest update on Max's remission?

Midway through August, Chelsea told her followers that Max was undergoing physical therapy to learn to walk again. While sharing her thanks to the Dodgers organization, friends and their loved ones, Chelsea updated that Max can sit unassisted and has been progressing well.

During the NLCS and NLDS, Max was spotted attending the games and cheering his father, Freddie Freeman. He still required to be carried, but with progressive updates, he should get walking soon.
