"What on Earth is this called?" - Trevor Bauer challenges followers to come up with name for embarassing swinging miss
Trevor Bauer might be one of the best baseball players in terms of engaging his social media followers. In his latest post, Bauer has issued a challenge to his followers, something that continues to keep him in conversations.
In the post, Bauer talks about baseball lingo. The former Cy Young Award winner dove into a number of different terms used for specific actions that take place during the average baseball game. In this video, he used highlights of himself during one of his Mexican League outings.
"I know what to call most things in baseball, like this, I call that a terrible pitch," Bauer said of one of his sliders thrown well outside of the strikezone.
One of the reasons why Bauer's social media presence has been so effective is the fact that he chooses to include some of his poor pitches as well. This includes the one he showed in the video.
He continued in the video, naming various baseball terms as he slowly progressed toward his challenge for his followers.
"You learned this one in teeball, that's a foul ball. You with me so far?" Bauer asked before making it a bit more difficult.
After explaining a few more terms, Bauer finally posed a question to his followers about what he could call a specific swinging miss from one of his opponents. The former Los Angeles Dodgers star made the opposing batter look silly with how badly he missed a slider outside of the zone.
"So, what about this? Ladies and gentleman, what on Earth is this called?" Bauer asked his followers, showing an embarassing swing and miss.
Trevor Bauer has documented his journey in the Mexican League throughout the season, typically highlighting a number of his impressive strikeouts. The swinging miss at the end of this video is another one that likely falls into the 'sword' category, his signature movement.
Trevor Bauer enjoyed an incredibly successful season in the Mexican League
Trevor Bauer has not pitched in the MLB since 2021 after sexual assault allegations were made against him. Even though he was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing, he has been unable to secure an MLB contract. As a result, the former Cincinnati Reds ace has taken his talents to both Japan and Mexico.
This season, Bauer signed with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico and quickly proved that he had plenty of life left in his arm. It was a tremendously successful season for Bauer, who not only earned an All-Star selection but also helped his club secure the championship.
Over the course of 83.1 innings, Bauer posted an impressive 10-0 record with a 2.48 ERA and 120 strikeouts. It remains to be seen if he will land another MLB contract. However, it's clear that he is still an effective pitcher when he is on the mound.
