What happened to Jurickson Profar in the seventh inning? All you need to know about the 15-min stall in NLDS Game 2
Outfielder Jurickson Profar becomes the latest victim of the heated rivalry between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. In Game 2 of the NLDS taking place at Dodger Stadium, Profar, who was playing left field for the Padres, was the target of one Dodgers fan, who allegedly threw a ball at him as the game entered the bottom of the seventh inning.
Immediately, Profar approached the onfield umpire, arguing for an unsafe situation back at the warning track. This initially resulted in the umpire asking him to go back before manager Mike Shildt came to the field to defend his player.
After a discussion that seemingly got Profar riled up a bit, Dodger Stadium security came into the field to take control of the situation. The announcer also called for fans to not throw objects on the field and the prohibition of the same would result in ejection from the stadium.
The security then got near the warning track and got seated there to ensure the incident doesn't happen again. This resulted in a 15-minute delay in the game before Yu Darvish resumed his pitching.
Before the eighth inning started, the live broadcast showed Manny Machado leading the group in a discussion, attempting to unite the team in a hostile environment.
Jurickson Profar had Dodgers fan fooled earlier in the game
In the first inning, Mookie Betts hit a deep drive to left field off Padres' pitcher Yu Darvish that could have resulted in a home run. Instead, Jurickson Profar made an impressive play down there, making a catch with a full stretch leap, robbing Betts and the Dodgers of a potential home run.
Hilariously enough, Profar acted as if he didn't have the ball, making a fool out of a fan, watching him for about 15 seconds. Even Betts first thought it was a home run before realizing that Jurickson Profar had caught the ball.
The potential home run could have tied the ball game 1-1.
This may have very well been the reason why the Dodgers fans were at odds with him in left field.
