“What’s the point of this? The team is horrible” - MLB fans react as Pedro Grifol parts ways with White Sox after disastrous season

The Chicago White Sox have had nothing short of a disastrous season this year. After riding a 21-game losing streak, the team tied for the second-longest skid in MLB since 1990. The franchise has struggled with an unbalanced offensive and defensive unit. With things going out of control, Chicago decided to fire their manager, Pedro Grifol, who was in his second season with the club.

Grifol failed to lead his team to success, as they sit at the bottom of the AL Central with the worst record in the majors (28-89). The team is 40.5 games behind the Cleveland Guardians (67-47) in their division.

Several MLB fans took to social media to react to this news. Many on X/Twitter expressed doubts about whether firing the manager would make a difference.

"What’s the point of this?" The team is horrible. Not going anywhere. Just run the season out and start fresh in the off-season," wrote one fan.
"Was getting rid of Pedro Grifol justified?" Asked another fan.

Another fan mentioned Chicago's 5-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday, which stopped their losing streak:

"Didn’t they just win a game the other day? Because firing Pedro Grifol is magically going to fix everything lol what a clown baseball owner Jerry Reinsdorf is"

Comments continued to flow in, as several fans found it absurd to fire him at this stage.

"Tied for 9th in winning percentage over the last 2 games and they fire him??????" asked one fan.
"Genius… it was totally the manager. They should go on a winning streak now," one fan chipped in.
"Should've gave him a full season to turn it around. Ridiculous, no job security today!" wrote another fan.

White Sox GM Chris Getz appreciates Pedro Grifol's efforts

White Sox GM Chris Getz appreciated Grifol's efforts in a statement following his termination:

"We appreciate the effort and professionalism Pedro and the staff brought to the ballpark every day. These two seasons have been very challenging. Unfortunately, the results were not there, and a change is necessary as we look to our future and the development of a new energy around the team."

With this decision, fans can only hope that the team will come back stronger and get back in the game next season. The White Sox have yet to announce their new manager.
